Questions for Potential Triads
Know Your Potential Oath-Siblings
The following are some questions that prospective Duelists may want to ask other prospective Duelists, when considering becoming oath-siblings. Remember that the oath you make to your triad is not to be taken lightly. Be sure that the triad you choose is balanced and strong, and that the three oath-siblings understand and trust each other. Prospective oath-siblings may also want to play the question game, to get to know each other better as people, and not only as Duelists.
- Why do you want to become a Duelist? What do you hope to gain? What do you hope to offer?
- What do you see as your own greatest strengths and weaknesses?
- What would a friend say are your greatest strengths and weaknesses?
- What would an enemy say are your greatest strengths and weaknesses?
- What are your expectations of a triad? What does a triad mean to you?
- What are you seeking in oath-siblings?
- What does honor mean to you?
- Is it ever honorable to break the law? If so, under what circumstances?
- How should one treat folk who show no honor?
- Can one have courtesy without honor, or honor without courtesy?
- Under what circumstances is it permissible (or honorable) to break an oath?
- What are good reasons to challenge someone to a duel? What are bad reasons?
- In what circumstances would you continue with a duel even if official sanction was denied? (Note: Unsanctioned duels are not illegal, but only frowned upon by the Court.)
- If one of your oath-siblings was offered an honored position (a knighthood, for example) in the Inner Bailey, would you want them to take it and advance alone, or decline and wait until the entire triad might advance together?
- If an oath-sibling were to advance alone to the Inner Bailey (as a knight, for example), would you continue to honor your oaths to each other? If so, how?
Of course, you are likely to have many more questions for each other than I have listed here, but this may start you talking on issues important for prospective Duelists to consider when choosing a triad. You should also feel free to speak with any of the current Duelists if you have questions.
